Immunizations and Medication

We recommend all guests consult their licensed medical professional before traveling to Tanzania to ensure they are well-prepared for the trip.

Malaria Prevention

  • Consider taking malaria prevention medication, such as Malarone or Doxycycline (both require a prescription). Each has potential side effects, so consult with a physician to determine the best option for you.

  • While we will encounter fewer mosquitoes due to the parks' high altitudes (around 4,500 ft. / 1,370 m), the risk of malaria cannot be entirely ruled out.

  • Malaria-carrying mosquitoes are more common at lower elevations (e.g., coastal areas like Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam). However, malaria prevalence in Tanzania is relatively low compared to neighboring countries due to their significant eradication efforts.

Travel Immunizations

Ensure you are up-to-date on basic travel immunizations, including:

  • Typhoid

  • Hepatitis A

  • Tetanus

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)

  • DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus)

For a full list of recommended vaccines, refer to the CDC Travel Health Website.

Yellow Fever Vaccine

  • Proof of a Yellow Fever Vaccine is required if you are arriving from an endemic country or spending more than 12 hours on a layover in an endemic region (e.g., Kenya, Brazil).

  • Check the list of endemic countries here.
